Myanmar's 20-MW Taungdaw Gwin solar project launched

Myanmar-based Gold Energy Company Limited (GE) announced the official launch of the 20-MW Taungdaw Gwin solar power plant. It is regarded as a milestone project in the country's electrification and energy transition efforts, especially considering the strong hit by challenges of the pandemic and global socioeconomic fluctuations.

Located on a site southeast of Kyaukse, Myit Thar Township, the Taungdaw Gwin solar project was developed by GE's subsidiary Green Power Energy Company Limited (GPE).

Following the principle of giving back to the community, the GPE team conducted an in-depth Environmental and Social Impact Assessment to ensure the construction was carried out in a responsible and sustainable manner. One notable example is that the GPE team built and installed two overpasses measuring 20.1 meters long by 4.5 meters wide for the convenience of commuting for local people.

The Taungdaw Gwin project comprises 45,980 solar panels with solar tracking systems integrated. The estimated capacity is around 25.1 MWdc or 22.9 MWac. Last month, the project began transmission to the National Grid via a 69.6 km 33-kV transmission line.

The Taungdaw Gwin is the second large-scale solar project completed by GE. Clean Power Energy Limited, another GE subsidiary, completed the 30-MW Thapyay Wa project in Mandalay district in December last year.
