Black Rock Solar

Black Rock Solar was established in 2008 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit clean energy developer and installer based in San Francisco, CA. The organization was founded out of the Burning Man community’s environmental initiatives and has focused on promoting environmental stewardship, economic development, and energy independence—especially for underserved communities.
The company has developed and installed over 100 photovoltaic solar projects across Nevada for clients including non-profits, schools, rural towns, and Native American tribes. In addition to solar installations, Black Rock Solar provided lighting efficiency retrofits to further reduce energy consumption.
A core part of their mission included making clean energy accessible through low-cost services while reinvesting proceeds into educational outreach and job training programs within renewable energy fields. Their work also supported small grants for community-based clean-energy art projects.
As of recent years (per Burning Man Project), Black Rock Solar transitioned its operations into a new entity called Black Rock Labs; thus some activities may now be under that successor organization.
