Founded in 2015 by T.R. Ludwig, Gaelen McKee, and Mark Cunningham, Brooklyn SolarWorks has established itself as New York City’s leading residential solar design and installation provider. With over 2,000 completed systems across all five boroughs—including many on challenging landmark properties—the company specializes in overcoming urban obstacles such as limited roof space and complex permitting requirements.
Brooklyn SolarWorks pioneered the patented Brooklyn Solar Canopy to make rooftop solar viable on NYC’s iconic flat-roofed brownstones—an innovation now available nationwide via its subsidiary. Their hyperlocal focus ensures deep expertise with city codes and incentives while providing tailored solutions that maximize energy production even where conventional systems fall short.
In response to growing demand from developers due to new environmental laws (e.g., Local Laws 92/94/97), they launched a specialty “Solar for Construction” division dedicated to integrating solar into new builds and major renovations. Beyond installations, BSW actively advocates for green legislation at city and state levels through partnerships with nonprofits, community organizations, public officials, and industry associations like NYSEIA.
To date, their work has generated over 12 million kWh of clean energy—equivalent to offsetting emissions from millions of miles driven or thousands of acres of forest preserved—and continues to drive New York’s transition toward a sustainable future.
