Canopy Energy was a solar energy developer headquartered in Van Nuys, California. Founded in 2016 as a corporation but with business roots dating back to 1990 under related entities, it quickly became one of the fastest-growing residential solar companies in California. The company specialized in full-service solar solutions for residential and commercial clients across California—and at times also served New York and New Jersey—offering system design, installation, project management by dedicated experts throughout each project phase, and robust after-sales support.
Canopy Energy distinguished itself by providing high-quality products from reputable brands such as SolarWorld and SolarEdge while offering industry-leading warranties: a 25-year workmanship warranty covering labor/installation plus a 25-year equipment warranty on panels. Customers could choose between outright purchase or financing through loans to maximize ownership benefits like tax credits.
Despite its rapid growth trajectory—installing an average of 85 systems per month since 2016—the company faced significant customer service challenges reflected in numerous unresolved complaints with the Better Business Bureauand ultimately ceased operations around early 2023–2024. As of April 2025, Canopy Energy is permanently closed; all services have been discontinued.
