Recurrent Energy is one of the world’s largest and most geographically diversified platforms for utility-scale solar and energy storage project development, ownership, and operations. As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc., Recurrent Energy serves as its parent company’s global development arm for power services. Headquartered in San Francisco, California, Recurrent has developed approximately 11 GWp of solar projects and 3.7 GWh of battery energy storage across six continents.
The company manages a robust pipeline exceeding 27 GWp in solar capacity and over 63 GWh in battery energy storage under various stages of development as of mid-2024. Its expertise spans from initial site selection through permitting, engineering/procurement/construction (EPC), financing arrangements—including innovative tolling agreements—and long-term operation/maintenance.
Recurrent Energy partners with major corporations such as Autodesk Inc., Biogen Inc., EMD Electronics (Merck KGaA), Wayfair Inc., among others to deliver clean power via PPAs or direct supply contracts. The company emphasizes grid reliability solutions that support decarbonization while maintaining cost certainty for customers.
As part of Canadian Solar’s sustainability initiatives, Recurrent is developing its own ESG program with plans to publish standalone reporting based on 2024 data. Its track record includes pioneering large-scale solar-plus-storage projects that help accelerate renewable integration into global grids.
