Salt River Project

Salt River Project (SRP) is one of Arizona’s largest community-based utilities, serving more than two million people across central Arizona with reliable electricity and water. Founded in 1903 by local ranchers seeking to secure sustainable water supplies through construction of Roosevelt Dam, SRP has grown into a dual organization: the Salt River Valley Water Users’ Association manages water resources while the Salt River Project Agricultural Improvement and Power District oversees electric power distribution. Headquartered in Tempe, AZ, SRP operates an extensive network of reservoirs—six along the Salt and Verde rivers—and manages over a dozen power generating stations that include hydroelectric plants as well as significant investments in utility-scale solar farms and battery storage projects.
As part of its commitment to sustainability and innovation, SRP has steadily expanded its renewable energy portfolio over more than a decade. Recent projects include large-scale solar installations such as Co Bar Solar (794 MW by completion), Sonoran Solar Energy Center with integrated battery storage (260 MW + one GWh battery), among others slated through at least 2027. In addition to infrastructure development, SRP provides robust customer support programs—including specialized billing options for residential solar users—and actively engages with local communities through education initiatives like its Heritage Center museum.
With over $4 billion in annual revenue (FY2023) and approximately five thousand employees, SRP remains dedicated to delivering affordable utility services while advancing clean energy solutions throughout metropolitan Phoenix.
