Founded in 1969, Spire Corporation established itself as a leading supplier in the global photovoltaic industry by designing and manufacturing highly engineered equipment used to produce PV modules. The company also provided complete production lines—turnkey solutions—for manufacturers entering or expanding within the solar market. In addition to its core focus on energy manufacturing equipment, Spire developed advanced biomedical processing technologies that improved orthopedic device durability through specialized surface treatments.
A notable innovation was their development of industry-standard SPIRE Xenon Flashers—solar simulators with exceptional repeatability used worldwide by certification laboratories and mass production facilities to test PV module performance with high accuracy. Their expertise extended into optoelectronic components via III-V epitaxial wafer growth.
In 2016, Eternal Sun B.V. acquired Spire’s solar simulator division; today these products are marketed under “Eternalsun Spire,” continuing a legacy of precision measurement technology critical to quality control in modern photovoltaics. While some business units have been divested or rebranded over time, “Spire” remains recognized historically as an innovator across both renewable energy manufacturing technology and biomedical engineering domains.
