India has the second largest population in the world – 1.35 billion as of 2018. Though its economy is expected to grow at an annual rate of 7.8% in 2019, electricity structure reformation still lags behind many countries with around 80% of its electricity is generated by fossil fuels. Thus, there are significant potential and opportunities for solar energy development in the upcoming years to help spur the energy transformation and fulfill the responsibilities of mitigating climate change. With more and more governors, social entities and individuals recognizing the benefits of solar, and more and more internal and external resources being put into the industry, we will see a reasonable prospect of prosperity for solar energy in India.
