Africa is by far the poorest continent on the planet—28 of the poorest countries in the world are in Africa. Electricity access is a fundamental and critical issue that needs to be addressed for better socioeconomic development, living environments, and social welfare. While the construction of conventional electricity infrastructure, like power grids, is costly and time-consuming, solar technologies, especially off-grid solar, are better options to alleviate electricity poverty. International initiatives like Power Africa, global investment and various associated support like solar education and training are leveraging the power of solar energy in Africa to help boost electricity access and solve related social issues.
