The EU PVSEC is the largest international Conference for Photovoltaic research, technologies and applications and at the same time a top international PV Industry Exhibitions. It gathers the global PV community to conduct business, to network and to present and discuss the latest developments and innovations in Photovoltaics. It is the world renowned science-to-science, business-to-business and science-to-industry platform with a full and only focus on the global PV Solar sector. This year the conference, on its 35th edition, takes place from Monday to Friday, 24 to 28 September 2018, at Square Brussels Meeting Centre, in Brussels, Belgium.
“It is my great honour and great pleasure to invite you to attend the next EU PVSEC to be held for the first time in my home town, the beautiful city of Brussels, the capital and the heart of Europe”, said Dr. Pierre Verlinden, EU PVSEC Conference General Chairman and Director at Amrock Pty Ltd. and Visiting Professor at Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, China.
“The EU PVSEC has always been for me a special event – continued Pierre Verlinden – where we are updated on all aspects of the latest photovoltaic technology developments, as well as on other topics such as new policies, market trends, social and educational impacts. Over the last 4 decades, the EU PVSEC has been for me an important forum, source of inspiration, a week of fruitful reflection on my work and a time to meet friends and colleagues from all over the world.”
The international Conference programme is structured in plenary, oral and visual presentations and cover the entire range of PV research, technologies and applications, focusing on the latest scientific, technological and market-related trends. Now that Photovoltaic Solar Energy is becoming a major electricity source, the EU PVSEC extended its focus to applied and policy-oriented topics. The EU PVSEC thus strengthens its established leading role in science and technology among the players of the global PV sector. With almost 1,000 high-level presentations from all over the world, the programme is offering both a world-class overview and in-depth insights to the latest research in the PV solar energy sector.
This year the event will be held in the heart of Europe, Brussels.
“From the early phases of photovoltaic energy deployment the scientific and technological aspects were supported by leading institutes in Belgium and the EU PVSEC 2018 is the perfect place for them to showcase this pioneering role and to interact with their partners and competitors” said Prof. Jef Poortmans, Director PV@imec, R&D Strategy Coordinator of EnergyVille. “Therefore – he concludes – we look forward to the exchange of exciting developments in PV science, technology and applications and all related topics, between stakeholders from all over the world!”

The Exhibition
The EUPVSEC Exhibition takes place from Monday to Thursday, 24 September to 27 September and gives the opportunity to meet different target groups: the global PV community, from science and PV industry will gather at the EU PVSEC. Technologies, innovations and new concepts in the upstream PV sector are the main characteristics. From total participants about 50% is represented by PV researchers and 40% by PV industry.
Networking
The EU PVSEC attracts PV professionals from all around the world. Part of the reason they attend the event is to meet other experts. The conference offers a wide range of excellent networking events such as the Welcome Reception, the EUPVSEC Dinner, the Networking Lunches and the B2B Matchmaking that offer to the professionals in the PV solar energy industry a unique opportunity to keep updated on the sector and its actors and meet qualified contacts in a short amount of time. The B2B Matchmaking is aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), research institutions and universities which are active in the field of PV Solar energy and individuals who seek partners for their ideas.
Awards
The EU PVSEC programme also includes three different important prizes.
The European Becquerel Prize for Outstanding Merits in Photovoltaics was established by the European Commission in 1989 to mark the 150th anniversary of Alexandre-Edmond Becquerel’s discovery of the photovoltaic effect in 1839, which laid the foundation of both, photovoltaics and photography. The Becquerel Prize 2018 is awarded to Prof. Peter Wuerfel, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany.
Awards for the best Visual PresentationsThis award is considered as one of the main features of the Conference. The award giving procedures are based on the quality of the contents reported and on the quality of the presentation. Thus, the most outstanding visual presentations will be awarded.
EU PVSEC 2018 Student AwardsTo encourage high-quality work amongst young researchers, on the occasion of the 35th EU PVSEC the EU PVSEC Student Awards were delivered in recognition of the most remarkable and outstanding research works in the field of PV. Applications for the EU PVSEC Student Awards have been received. They were reviewed and scored by the international Scientific Committee, made up of more than 200 leading research and industry experts from the global PV community.
The prizes will be awarded during the Conference.
