Midsummer is a Swedish high-tech solar energy company founded in 2004 that focuses on developing and manufacturing innovative thin-film CIGS solar panels. Unlike conventional silicon-based modules, Midsummer’s products are silicon-free—making them up to 90% lighter and resulting in a carbon footprint nearly 90% lower than traditional alternatives. Their core technology enables highly flexible panels that can be discreetly integrated onto various types of roofing materials without compromising structural integrity or waterproofing layers.
The company's main product lines—Midsummer SLIM, WAVE, and BOLD—are tailored for different roof types: flat bitumen/plastic membrane roofs; standing seam metal roofs; wavy tile-shaped rooftops; all benefiting from easy installation without roof penetration. Manufacturing takes place at facilities in Sweden (Järfälla) and Italy (Bari), utilizing proprietary DUO production systems—the world’s most prevalent system for making flexible CIGS cells—which they also supply under the “Midsummer Machinery” brand to other producers worldwide.
Internationally recognized through collaborations such as with Soprasolar/Soprema (France) to integrate their lightweight modules into roofing membranes—and recent expansion into Southeast Asia via distribution agreements—the company is positioned at the forefront of sustainable building-integrated photovoltaics. Their solutions have been adopted across residential, commercial/industrial sectors where low load-bearing capacity precludes standard PV options. Sustainability permeates every aspect: over 98% recyclability rate; use of recycled materials; minimal environmental impact throughout lifecycle—all supporting a vision to accelerate global adoption of renewable energy technologies.
